How We Make Money

Howdy folks, Chance here (sole owner/writer/photographer/everything of this site). Although barely anyone will read this, I figured I’d put out this quick disclaimer of how I make money with this site.

Affiliate Links

Alright, so you’ve probably seen this on many different sites and also on my own:

Sonyphotoreview.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

But what the heck does it mean?

I (along with any other site that posts this disclosure) participate in the Amazon Affiliates program. What this means is that anytime you click a special Amazon link (known as an affiliate link), I’ll get a very tiny commission on any purchase you make at no extra cost to you.

This, to be fully transparent, is my primary source of revenue with this site. It keeps a roof over my head and it allows me to keep renting/buying new gear to continue writing in-depth and honest reviews.

So, long story short, if you buy through my affiliate links, thank you!

Mediavine Ads

The second source of income from this site is through advertisements. Although there are numerous ad networks, I work with Mediavine as they offer a good blend of revenue and UX (user experience).

While affiliate links offer “high ticket” payouts, they’re often quite random, especially with expensive equipment like camera bodies and high-end lenses.

Running ads allows me to lock in a somewhat more consistent income every day. With affiliates, I may make nearly nothing or I may strike it big, but with ads, I get around the same amount of revenue every month.

If you use an ad blocker: no hard feelings. I totally understand, and I do too.
